How to Tell When You Have an Achilles Tendon Injury
An Achilles tendon injury is a very common condition, and you need to be aware of what the different signs and symptoms associated with the condition so that you will be able to tell if you ever develop an Achilles tendon injury yourself.
There are actually quite a few different symptoms that you may experience as a result of the onset of an Achilles tendon injury.
Pain is usually the first symptom, and you will notice that you are experiencing unusual pain and even numbness in and around the area. Pain and stiffness are especially felt in the morning, and this pain may be described as diffuse along the tendon rather than as specific.
It is important that you are aware of whether you are suffering from acute or chronic tendonitis, because they are very different. Chronic tendonitis differs mostly from acute tendonitis in that it is more of a long term persistent problem.
Surgery
If you ever do develop an Achilles tendon injury and try other treatments to no avail, then there is always the option of Achilles tendon surgery. This is only used as a last resort however and should not be relied upon. You will first have to go through your doctor and they will determine whether or not you are an eligible candidate for the procedure.
After this, you will need to stop taking certain medications and take other important steps before you will be able to go forward with the surgery.
Now, if you want to avoid your Achilles tendon injury from coming back in the future, it is important that you take the proper preventive measures.
Of course first and foremost you are going to want to avoid the causes that led you to developing the tendonitis in the first place. This means avoid overusing the tendon, running up hills, and wearing high heels too often is another major cause of this condition.
Proper conditioning, gradual introduction of activity, proper warm up and stretching before physical activity, and wearing appropriate shoes for the activity, are all important if you want to prevent yourself from developing the condition again in the future.
You should also take the time to educate yourself more on the condition so that you are aware of just what you are dealing with and can take the best, most effective steps towards a full and proper recovery from the tendonitis condition.
